Skills That Save Lives
At St John Ambulance ACT, we believe that first aid knowledge empowers communities, saves lives, and builds confidence. Our Community Education programs are designed to make lifesaving skills accessible to people of all ages, from school students to seniors, community groups and organisations.
Whether you’re looking for practical hands‑on learning, awareness sessions, or a tailored workshop, our experienced trainers and volunteers can deliver engaging, evidence‑based education that meets the needs of your group.
First Aid in Schools
Our First Aid in Schools program introduces students to essential first aid skills in a fun, age‑appropriate and interactive way. The content is scaled based on the age group and is scaffolded by the DRSABCD action plan.
Students may cover topics like:
- How to recognise an emergency
- Calling Triple Zero (000)
- Basic wound care
- Compression only CPR
These sessions build confidence and help young people feel prepared to respond in real‑life situations.
First Aid for Seniors
Designed specifically for older adults, this program focuses on the most common first aid situations affecting seniors and their carers.
Topics may include:
- Falls and fractures
- Burns and scalds
- Strokes and cardiac emergencies
- CPR & AED use
Our trainers deliver the content at a comfortable pace and ensure plenty of time for questions and discussion.
CPR & AED Workshops
Our CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) workshops teach participants how to recognise cardiac arrest and respond quickly and confidently.
These practical, hands‑on sessions include:
- Performing effective CPR
- How and when to use an AED
- Real‑time practice with training manikins and devices
Perfect for workplaces, community groups, sporting clubs, and anyone wanting to refresh their skills.
If you would like to book a session, please get in touch with us by completing the Community Education Request Form.
Please note these sessions are not accredited courses, they are a community safety and well-being initiative. Participants will not receive any formal qualifications for attendance.
